Police: Cullman woman dies after attack 1 month ago
CULLMAN COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- Cullman police say an elderly woman's death is being investigated tonight as a homicide.
Eighty-seven-year old Helen Mayo died at UAB Hospital yesterday. Investigators say Mayo was attacked at her home near Cullman High School last month.
Police identify her attacker as 52-year-old Emmett Davis. He is currently charged with first degree assault, but could face additional charges since Mayo has died.
Investigators say Davis had done maintenance work for Mayo. They believe he became angry after she refused to loan him money.
