Cullman’s Busy Bee Café reopens 1 year after destruction
News

CULLMAN, AL (WBRC)- Hungry folks in the City of
Cullman can rejoice as the city's oldest restaurant reopened on Friday.

The Busy Bee Café was destroyed on
April 27th of 2011 when a tornado tore through Cullman. Now, the café
is reopening a year after the destruction. It is a sign that Cullman is
recovering from the extreme damage it suffered.

The Spears family has owned the café
since 1967 and it was first established in 1919, making it Cullman's oldest restaurant.
The café's owner, Kitty Spears, was inside the building on April 27, 2011. She
suffered a broken pelvis when the tornado hit. Despite her injuries, Spears
started planning the reopening of the café while lying in her hospital bed.
Today, she can be seen cooking for customers behind the counter.

The last customer on April 27 of
last year, Jerry Parker, was first in line for the Café's grand opening. Around
30 patrons lined up to get inside at 6 a.m.
